OFFICE OF THE ASSESSOR-RECORDER MAILS OUT LANGUAGE SURVEY
Critical Notice of Assessed Value Notice Available in multiple languages

San Francisco, CA – Earlier this month, the Office of the Assessor-Recorder mailed the Notice of Assessed Value to over 206,000 property owners that included a language survey form.

In an effort to improve communications to our limited English-speaking communities, the language survey form provides taxpayers with a quick and convenient way to opt-in to receive in-language Notice of Assessed Value letters in the future.  In the current year, 1,899 taxpayers opted-in to receive Chinese language notices and 103 taxpayers opted-in to receive Spanish language notices.

“Property tax law is already complicated. Imagine how much harder it is to understand it if you are only able to understand limited English,” explains Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu.  “Our responsibility in government is to make sure we do all that we can to make our services assessable and understandable to all our residents.”

The language survey form is currently translated into Chinese, Spanish and Tagalog.  Property owners can also contact our office by calling 3-1-1 to request the Chinese, Spanish, or Filipino Notice of Assessed Value in the future.  Property owners can also visit our website at www.sfasr.org which includes a link to additional translated materials in Vietnamese, Russian, Japanese, and Korean online.
