ASSESSOR-RECORDER CARMEN CHU RELEASES
LANGUAGE SURVEY DATA ON SAN FRANCISCO BUSINESSES

SAN FRANCISCO (CA) – For the first time, the Office of the Assessor-Recorder is reaching out with a language survey when mailing their annual 571-L Business Notice to assess the language needs of business owners in San Francisco.  So far, 76 businesses returned surveys requiring other languages, 45 requested information in Chinese, seven requested Spanish, six requested Korean, and three in other languages

“In an effort to serve all residents in San Francisco, we started surveying our property owners a few years back and began mailing the annual Notice of Assessed Value in different languages. It is exciting that we are expanding the same service to business owners for the first time!” said Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu.  “While a small number of businesses have made a request so far, it is a great starting point to continue improving customer service for all San Franciscans.”

The Office of the Assessor-Recorder is committed to serving all property and business owners in San Francisco by providing equal access to information. So far, the Office of the Assessor-Recorder received 76requests by business owners. The survey is voluntary. Business owners who indicated a language need will begin to receive their annual notice in other languages to file the business personal property statement beginning next year.

The Office of the Assessor-Recorder encourages business owners who are interested in receiving translated notices to fill out and return their surveys as soon as possible. Please return your survey to our office at 1155 Market Street, 5th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. If you have any additional questions, please contact 311.
