ASSESSOR CARMEN CHU’S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF MAYOR LEE
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor Edwin Lee. He was a Mayor who cared deeply about people. Someone who unexpectedly took on the mantle of leadership without the thought of personal gain. He dedicated his life to public service, advancing civil rights and dignity for San Franciscans in need.
We worked a lot together and laughed a lot together. As a Chinese American, he was a symbol of the possible. Possible to be from an immigrant family and be the Mayor. Possible to come from poverty and be the Mayor. Possible to be kind and humble and be the Mayor. I will miss him and my heart and prayers are with Anita, Brianna, Tania and the entire Lee Family.”
